Semi-Private or One-on-One: Which One Fits You

Two ways to train at The LOOK, both coached and both programmed for you. Here's the honest difference between them, and the three questions that decide it.

People ask which one is better. Neither is — they’re different tools, and the right one depends on how you’re wired, what your week looks like, and what you’re training around. Here’s how we actually decide it with clients.

What semi-private means here

Semi-private is not a class. Nobody is at the front of the room counting reps while forty people follow along.

You train in a group capped at six, on your own written program, with a coach on the floor the entire time. The person next to you is doing something else entirely, because their assessment said something else. What you share is the hour, the room and the coach’s attention — not the workout.

Sessions run 60 minutes and follow a set schedule, so it suits people who do better with a standing appointment on the calendar than with an open invitation to come in whenever. There’s more on how it works on the semi-private training page.

What one-on-one is for

One-on-one is the same coaching with none of it divided. An hour, one coach, one person.

It’s the right call when the training needs constant hands-on adjustment: a serious injury history, a joint that dictates the whole program, a technical lift you’re rebuilding from the ground up, or a schedule that refuses to sit still and needs the session moved every week.

It’s also, frankly, the right call for people who will not push themselves without someone standing there. You know if that’s you.

Three questions that usually settle it

Do you need eyes on every single rep? If something in your body changes what you can do that day — a shoulder, a back, a knee mid-rehab — start one-on-one. You can always move to semi-private later, and plenty of clients do.

Does a fixed schedule help you or hurt you? Semi-private runs at set times. For most people that’s the feature, not the drawback: the decision is already made. If your week genuinely can’t hold a repeating slot, one-on-one flexes.

Do other people in the room make you better or self-conscious? Some people work harder with five others training beside them. Some spend the hour watching everybody else. Both answers are fine — they just point at different rooms.

What doesn’t change between them

Whichever you pick, the parts that make the training work are the same:

  • The program is written for you off your own assessment, not pulled off a shelf.
  • A coach is watching the lift and correcting it, every session.
  • Your body composition gets re-checked as you go, so progress is measured rather than assumed.
  • Memberships are month-to-month. If you pick wrong, you move.

Current rates for both are on the pricing section of the homepage — no packages to decode, and nothing hidden until a sales conversation.

Start with the assessment either way

Both routes start the same: a 45-minute Deep Health Assessment, complimentary, at the studio in Irvine. Body composition scan, movement assessment, a look at how you’re training and eating now, and a plan built from it.

At the end of it we’ll tell you which format we think fits you — including if that’s neither, and you’d be better off somewhere else. You keep the plan regardless.
