He has rebuilt his own body three times

Bryan has rebuilt his own body three times. He spent six years on the US Ski Team, and at 18 he broke his back. Later came full reconstructive hip surgery and a warning that he would never ski again. The following year he was back on the mountain, skiing, competing and coaching for the United States Ski Association.

Years after that, a severe autoimmune condition put him in the hospital. He lost 36 pounds in three weeks, and doctors told him his strength training days were over. He went back to the science of exercise physiology, biomechanics, nutrition and recovery, and returned to lifting carrying more muscle than ever.

It's why he doesn't believe in cookie-cutter programs. Since founding The LOOK in 2012, he has coached doctors, attorneys, business owners and executives; professional cheerleaders and dancers from NFL and NBA teams; women navigating menopause and PCOS; and clients rebuilding after serious injuries and neurological conditions, including West Nile virus paralysis.

He has worked as a personal trainer in Orange County since 2007, holds a degree in kinesiology, and coaches out of the Irvine studio today.

Knowing how to build your own body is a different skill from knowing how to build someone else's

Most gyms, and plenty of private studios, hire a trainer because they passed a certification and look the part. That tells you what they can do for themselves. It tells you nothing about what they can do for you.

Your physiology is different. So are your biomechanics, your injury history and your schedule. A program that ignores all of that isn't a program, it's the trainer's own workout handed to someone else, with the hour filled by conversation. They might be good company. You came for results.

At these prices you should get a prescription rather than a routine. That means a full-body composition scan and a movement assessment before anything is written, a plan built from what those show, and the same numbers re-checked as you go so you can see whether it's working.
